Beads of Courage is a program that supports children with severe illness. These children go through so much and this program recognizes that by giving them a glass bead that represents each step on their medical journey. The Diva has a child that has medical issues and I think of them as they face every day with each new challenge. Her challenge to us was to create a tile that reflected some aspect of the Beads of Courage.
To create my tile I picked out a variety of tangles that reminded me of beads. Then I arranged them on the tile in the same way I would do the Hollibaugh tangle. Look at the tile at the bottom of this post to see the first stage with simple line work. I added detail and shaded it for the tile at the top of this post.
After I had the tile done in black and white I took my picture and set it aside. I kept looking at it though and finally decided it needed color. I pulled out my glitter pens and had some fun coloring it in. Let me know in the comments if you like it better in color or black and white.

I Love this tile and love that you added color. It really gives it life. And the composition is so creative. My only regret is that I didn't think of it first! :)

ReplyDeleteThank you for showing the three stages here, it's very helpful to see the process. Normally, I would prefer the black and white version but you have chosen such lovely delicate colours that i think I prefer that one. A lovely piece of work, either way.

Love your Tile, Sue. The color version is my Fav, but the black and white is so clean and pure. Love the Idea of using the Hollibaugh style in your design is so creative.

ReplyDeleteI love this tile! Whether a black and white or color, it's perfect for this challenge. However I have to say that I really prefer the color but I always do😄
ReplyDeleteI usually am a traditionalist and prefer the black and white work. I think both of these are great and really like the version with color.
ReplyDeleteForgot to add that I like the subtle shading around the edge that gives just the hint or a frame.

ReplyDeleteVery clever----using the hollibough technique for this challenge. I really like the black and white tile, but when I saw the one in color, it reminded me of the photo Laura (the Diva) shared of the beads brave little Artoo learned in his first year of life. Nice.
