Revisit, remixing Bales

Whee - A tangleation challenge - and a challenge to do it with one of my comfort tangles. Tangleations are both fun and tricky. You want to do something different but you don't want to lose the essence of the tangle either. Bales is one of the first tangles I learned. It's one of those tangles that sneaks its way into a lot of my tiles. But to do it here - well - let's start by changing the standard grid pattern into a zendala. And then, in each row I tried to go a different way with the tangle. Can you still find the original bales?

Pattern Play

To help me with this challenge I referred to a BRAND NEW Zentangle Book. It's called 'Pattern Play' by Cris Letourneau CZT and Sonya Yencer CZT. It's a thick book with lots of stuff between the covers. The focus of this book is Tangleations. There are a number of new tangle patterns with their step-outs. More importantly however, are the variations of each tangle. Cris and Sonya will inspire you to find new ways - your own ways -  to make your zentangle artwork come to life. There is space in this book for you to draw in it - the best way I think, for you to remember all the new ideas you are bound to come up with! I heartily recommend this book to any Zentangle addict. It will be available on Amazon starting June 27 - Many CZTs will also carry this book for sale in their classes.

Cris Letourneau is also the author of 'Made in the Shade'. This book came out last year. It's the most helpful book out there for shading in Zentangle and I also feel strongly that you should have this book in your library if you don't already!

  2. Love this Sue! I have to really look for bales but can find it plus other things. I do have Chris Letourneau's new book; just haven't gotten a chance to really go through it.

  6. Like a beautiful lace doily. I really love the way you use a pen colour that matches the tile - it brings it all together so well.

  9. Wow I love the pink. Bales works really well on your zendala, you must have a very steady hand, it's so neat :) Linda x

  11. Is it wrong to say I want to eat it? It looks so delicious, like one of those musky pink lollies. Sue, I also want to say thank you for the book review. It looks like an amazing book, I will definately be trying to get a copy.
